This may sound rather strange, and probably should be posted as a poll, but seeing how I'm not available to do that right now...just, ask here, I guess?  o_o
You know how you fav or watch somebody for whatever reason, and then that person comes back to you in a reply of "thank you?"  How do you feel about this, or, what are your views about this?

For example, let's say you just watched me, and I reply back on your page "oh thanks for the watch?".  What do you take that as?  Like a sincere thank you, being polite?  Or maybe as in insult?  Just someone snobbishly rubbing against you for  more previews...or whatever inside reason?  What if it was the other way around, I watched you?...
The internet is a very unpredictable place.

I'm just curious about your views on it. o.o

If I don't make sense I'm sorry. D:

I favorited a picture and someone wrote on my wall and thanked me... I was like "Huh? What was that for? I just... liked your picture... uh, you're welcome?"

Haha I usually do it as a sincere thank you, but I always wonder if other people just watch you for no reason, or if they actually like your work...I should make that a poll one day when I get prem.

With a questions mark "thank you?"? Well that I don't really know how to go about with that. Maybe the person thinks they don't deserve to be watched and yet someone is willing to watch them? I really don't know.

I remember I faved a tutorial on :iconpyro-blitz: the artist thought was utter crap and had to tell me thanks but didn't think it was fav worthy.

Then when I was trying to fave all the tutorials from :iconpyro-blitz: to my :iconpink-shimmer: same author decided to go on my page and thank me for the fave on the tutorial even though they still think it was utter crap. D8
Didn't really say anything because even if I said I think it was good the artist would have probably been "lolz I still think it's not good."

Hmm... maybe people take their own stuff too negative? That or it's someone completely random that they don't know would watch them?

I don't mind people going back to my profile page and thanking me for faving their stuff. But with a "?"? I don't know about that one.

I think I'm just as confused as you. xD

haha, I wanted to make a poll on this once I got a sub, but w/e xD

Many people do it out of courtesy. At least at first. When you join dA and +fav something, the person might thank you. You then learn that it's "polite" to do so when someone +favs your stuff.
After a while, you begin to just do it out of habit, rather than courtesy.

You might stay at that stage, or you outgrow it and do it for the pageviews. Not just for commenting but, when someone +favs your work, they'll often do it by passing by. When you say thanks, you become a slightly more familiar face. If you let time pass (say, the person doesn't +fav anything for a few days) and do it, they'll forget who you were and look at your profile to remember, possibly +faving more stuff and watching you. It's all like business xP You got to make a lasting impression~
If the 'thanks' is more wordy (and no not those dumb linkback ones. Those are worse than the pageviews stage >>) or if it displays obvious enthusiasm and doesn't look like something copy/pasted, that person is genuinely thankful. Probably.

I personally look at the +favs or collection folder first, since this whole topic can go the other way. If there's a bunch of crap in there, especially if mine is buried and they +favd it "moments ago", I know they're +faving random shit for pageviews. If it's filled with decent stuff, or they don't +fav too often, I'll lay down a generic thanks. If only epic stuff is in there, or it's from someone I admire, I'll usually leave something more enthusiastic, and I'll make an effort to browse their gallery. If I find out I know them or they just have an awesome gallery or something, I strike up conversation too. If they commented on the dev they faved, I'll usually reply and thank them there o3o
I rarely say thanks if the person knows me or watches me, and I never say thanks if we know each other well. Simply because it's creepily formal. xD Also, it'd get repetitive since they watch me and might +fav often.

I hate and see no logic in watching someone just because they watched you. :T It seems more like facebook friending (ie collecting friends) or something. If I know them or we become friends, then I will. Likewise if they have stuff that actually makes me want to watch them.

OF COURSE this is all just my thoughts, and I'm a very materialistic person xP
